Stainless steel, or roestvrij staal, is strong and makes slim frames possible. Apple Bee uses it in the Camp Bay, for example. Despite the name, stainless steel can also get brown spots if dirt and salt are left on it for too long. Regular cleaning prevents this.

In short

  • Clean a few times a year with lukewarm water and a mild soap solution.
  • Dry with a soft cloth.
  • By the coast or near a swimming pool rinse more often.

Cleaning

  1. Wipe the frame with a soft cloth and a soap solution of lukewarm water with a mild cleaning agent.
  2. Rinse with clean water.
  3. Wipe it dry with a soft, dry cloth. This prevents limescale spots.

Brown spots? That is usually superficial discoloration caused by dirt or salt, not real rust in the material. A special stainless steel cleaner usually removes it well.

What you better not do

  • No steel wool or scouring pads: they leave scratches and iron particles behind.
  • No chlorine, bleach, or hydrochloric acid.
  • Do not leave tools or iron objects on the frame for extended periods.

For the winter

  • Clean and dry the frame before winter begins.
  • If necessary, use a breathable protective cover and make sure the set is dry when you put it over.
  • Maintain teak parts or cushions according to the advice for teak and garden cushions.
